Versioning of template items, or an undo last save feature for those times when when we edit on the fly and accidentally select and delete a whole mess of data.

..Not that it's happened to me. :X

This is a good idea to have. The versioning API would be pretty easy to integrate into SiteTemplate so I'll see if we can't squeeze that into one of the next update releases :)

Cheers,

Thinking about this further, there's a bit of a problem with versioning those files. Not everyone accesses them through SiteTemplate, lots of designers FTP and edit in their editor of choice. Any such change breaks the continuity of the version history...

One thing I just realized that can ease the previewing pain of testing a new template change is the new 'duplicate this page' button we checked into CVS yesterday. As a designer, I could duplicate my template in FTP while I'm working, make changes to the duplicate, then to test I log into Sitellite, click 'duplicate this page' from a similar page and change the template. My preview is now showing the latest template change without saving anything, so I can just cancel when I'm done and overwrite the original when I'm happy with it.

Doesn't solve it completely (mistakes you don't realize right away, CSS changes, etc.) but it's still an interesting unintended use of the new 'duplicate' button :)

For now, I'm going to have to think a bit more on how to approach the synchronization problem with these files. Any ideas are most welcome!

Cheers,

Lux
